SUTIKA PARICHARYA: REGIMEN FOR PUERPERIUM WOMEN

ABSTRACT Ayurveda gives importance to the care of women at every phase of her life especially in antenatal & postnatal care. Women’s reproductive life may be divided grossly into three phases i.e. Rajaswala (during menstrual cycle), Garbhini (childbearing women) Sutika (after delivered baby).[1] And according to various acharyas considering all, she has to maintain health during these phases by appropriate paricharya. Acharya kashyapa has defined Sutika as the women having delivered a foetus followed by expulsion of placenta.[2] A postnatal period is the period beginning immediately after the separation of placenta and according various Samhita extending up to six weeks and postnatal period is co-related with sutika paricharya in ayurvedic classics. Ayurveda has described in detail about the postnatal period and care for this period under the title sutika paricharya. when a woman not following proper sutika paricharya leads to sutika roga’s.
