Abstract

COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF ERANDAMULADI NIRUHA BASTI WITH AND WITHOUT GOMUTRA ARKA IN THE TREATMENT OF VATA-KAPHAJA GRIDHRASI

*Dr. Nidhi Kumari and Dr. Shalini

ABSTRACT

Modern lifestyles have led to an increase in musculoskeletal disorders, particularly low back pain and sciatica, due to prolonged sitting, poor posture, and insufficient physical activity. Sciatica, a common manifestation of Vata-Kaphaja Gridhrasi, causes severe pain along the sciatic nerve, affecting mobility and quality of life. Ayurveda, with its holistic approach, offers effective management of this condition, particularly through Basti therapy, which is aimed at balancing the doshas, especially Vata. This study aims to evaluate the clinical efficacy of Erandamuladi Niruha Basti with and without Gomutra Arka in the treatment of Vata-Kaphaja Gridhrasi. A total of 10 patients, aged 25–60 years, were selected and randomly divided into two groups: one receiving Erandamuladi Niruha Basti with Gomutra Arka and the other receiving the same formulation without Gomutra Arka. The treatment was administered as per the Yoga Basti schedule, with Murchita Tila Taila used for Anuvasana Basti. Patient outcomes were assessedthrough subjective symptom scoring and clinical observation. In the Gomutra Arka group, 80% of patients showed moderate improvement and 20% showed marked improvement, with no mild improvement or unchanged cases. In contrast, the group without Gomutra Arka showed 66.6% mild improvement, 20% moderate improvement, and 6.7% marked improvement or no change. No adverse effects were reported in either group. This study highlights the enhanced therapeutic potential of Gomutra Arka in Erandamuladi Basti for managing Vata-Kaphaja Gridhrasi, offering better symptom relief and doshic balance than traditional therapy alone.
