Abstract

A SHORT REVIEW ON TRADITIONAL HERBAL DRUGS USED AS ANTI-DIABETIC AGENTS

Priyanka Rana* and Akshat Kashyap

ABSTRACT

Dіabetes mellitus (DM), a life-threatening Advanced Metabolic Syndrome that is accompanied by hyperglycemia and a number of side effects such cardiovascular disease and chronic renal disease, is also known as type 2. High blood sugar levels and the disturbance of insulin metabolism and homeostasis are the root causes of DM. Over time, DM can cause potentially fatal medical conditions like blindness, heart disease, kidney damage, and stroke. DM's morbidity and mortality rates are still high, despite advances in treatment over the years. New therapeutic approaches are therefore required to lessen the impact of this condition. The usage of medicinal plants, vitamins, and necessary nutrients is one such low-cost prevention and therapy option that is readily available to diabetes patients. This review article's research goal is to examine DM's therapy options based on medicinal plants. According to the findings of multiple scientific studies, the medicinal plants Aloe vera linn, Cinnamomum Zeylenicum, Panax ginseng, Coccinia grandis, Azadiracta indica, Catharanthus roseus,Carica papaya, Mangifera indica, Andrographis paniculata, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Curucuma longa, Acacia nilotica, Zingiber officinale all contain phytochemicals that shave anti-hyperglycemic properties and may be used to prevent or treat diabetes. This review study aims to fill this knowledge vacuum by researching DM and emphasizing the biological significance of the most successful medicinal plants' hypoglycemic effects, which have enormous potential to prevent and/or cure DM.

Keywords: Medicinal plant, diabetes mellitus, phytochemicals, anti-hyperglycemic.
