TO PREPARE AND EVALUATE ANTI-HEAD LICE SOAP USING ANNONA SQUAMOSA (CUSTARD APPLE) SEEDS EXTRACT

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to prepare and evaluate the Anti head lice soap using Annona squamosa seeds extract. The soap was formulated using Annona squamosa seeds extract, sodium hydroxide, water, beeswax, coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil. Sandalwood oil was used to impart aroma to the soap. Evaluation of Annona squamosa seed powder was done using total Ash value, water soluble ash value and acid insoluble ash value and that of seeds extract was based on parameters like colour, pH and anti-lice activity. Different evaluation tests such as colour, physical appearance, anti-lice activity, saponification value, free alkali content, pH, foam volume, foam retention and stability testing were performed to determine the physicochemical properties of the prepared soap. The soap was white and smooth in appearance. It showed good anti-lice activity and foaming ability. Death time of all the lice was less than 1 minute. Further research and development is required forimproving its quality and safety.
