ABSTRACT

The integration of novel drug delivery systems with herbal medicines presents a promising frontier in modern medicine. This review explores various advanced drug delivery technologies, including mouth dissolving tablets, transdermal dosage forms, nanoparticles, and other nanocarriers, to enhance the therapeutic efficacy and minimize the side effects of herbal compounds. The incorporation of phytoconstituent-loaded nanoparticles, using techniques such as hot and cold homogenization, coacervation, and nanoprecipitation, significantly improves the stability and targeted delivery of herbal drugs. Applications in cancer treatment, liver protection, and cardiovascular diseases are discussed, highlighting the potential of herbal nanomedicine. The review underscores the importance of modern phytopharmaceutical research in standardizing, extracting, and identifying active herbal components for effective integration into novel drug delivery systems, thus advancing the therapeutic potential of traditional Ayurvedic medicines.

Keywords: Herbal drug delivery systems, Nanotechnology, Nanoparticles, Phytoconstituents, Ayurvedic medicine, Transdermal dosage forms, Therapeutic efficacy, Phytopharmaceutical research.
