PREPARATION AND EVALUATION OF BISOPROLOL BUCCALADHESIVE TABLETS USING BOTH NATURAL AND SYNTHETIC POLYMERS

ABSTRACT

In this present investigation model drug Bisoprolol was selected. There were many buccaladhesive polymers used earlier both natural and synthetic. In this study 3 natural polymers Karaya gum, Guar gum, Xanthan gum and 3 synthetic polymers were selected namely HPMCK100M, EUDRAGITRS100, POLOXAMER 407. The natural polymers that were used in this investigation were studied for Swelling index, Particle size distribution, Derived properties and Buccaladhesive strength. The results that were obtained were satisfactory and hence by using these gums formulations were prepared. Compatibility studies were performed and found that all gums and polymers were compatable with each other showing no deviations. Precompression and Postcompression parameters were studied and the results obtained were within the range. The optimizedbuccaladhesive tablets were studied for stability and the unaltered formulation was selected based on that.
