POLYELECTROLYTE COMPLEX AND THEIR BIOMEDICAL APPLICATION
Teresa George Poozhikanadakel*, Anseef S. Muhammed, Jose Kuriakose, Nishitha Shinoj and Sobin Joseph
ABSTRACT Polyelectrolyte complexes (PECs) are association complexes formedby electrostatic interactions between oppositely charged particles, suchas polymer polymer, polymer drug, and polymer drug polymer. Thesecomplexes avoid the use of chemical cross linking agents , reducing thepotential for toxicity. Additional forces, such as hydrophobicinteractions and hydrogen bonding, also play a role in their formation.PECs are biocompatible, sensitive to environmental changes, and havemedical applications, such as drug re lease regulation. The synthesisand stability of PECs are influenced by various factors, includingtemperature, ionic strength, pH, polymer flexibility, chargedistribution, and molecular weight. This prese nt article mainly focuson polyelectrolyte comple x and their biomedical application.
