A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF GLOBAL HOMEOPATHIC PHARMACOPOEIAS: STANDARDIZATION, QUALITY CONTROL, AND HARMONIZATION EFFORTS
Ayesha Naaz*
ABSTRACT Introduction: Pharmacopoeias are vital for ensuring the safety, efficacy, and standardization of medicinal substances. This study compares three major homoeopathic pharmacopoeias—the Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of India (HPI), the German homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia (GHP), and the homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States (HPUS). The objective is to examine their contributions to the standardization of homoeopathic medicines, focusing on quality control, potency, and preparation methods, and to explore potential global harmonization. Methodology: A comparative analysis was conducted on the HPI (2016 edition), GHP, and HPUS. Key areas such as historical background, monograph structure, quality control practices, and preparation methods were reviewed. Differences in potency definitions, quality control measures, and therapeutic indications were identified through a detailed examination of each pharmacopoeia’s monographs and appendices. Results: The study identified significant structural and procedural differences among the HPI, HPUS, and GHP, particularly in quality control measures and monograph details. Keywords: Pharmacopoeias, Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of India (HPI); German Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia (GHP); Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States (HPUS); Standardization; Quality Control; Potency; Preparation Methods; Global Harmonization; Comparative A [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
