PANCHAKARMA TECHNIQUES FOR A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE: A REVIEW
Mahesh Nayak* and Anand Rahul
ABSTRACT Panchakarma is a traditional Ayurvedic therapy that involves cleansing and revitalizing the body through specific techniques. It supports general health and wellbeing by detoxifying, balancing Doshas (Pitta, Kapha, and Vata), eliminating pollutants, improving digestion, increasing metabolism, fortifying tissues, and strengthening the immune system. Swedana therapy relieves blockage, stiffness, and cold sensations in the body, while Nasya therapy balances Prana and Doshas and eliminates nasal obstructions. Anuvasana Basti is a post-surgery treatment that enhances digestive health, balances Vata Dosha, relieves chronic constipation, promotes detoxification, and provides grounding and relaxing effects. To maximize the efficiency of Panchakarma, preliminary procedures and supportive activities can be done at home. However, it is preferable to receive the full treatment at a competent Ayurvedic clinic or wellness facility. Home-basedtreatments and lifestyle changes can enhance the benefits of Panchakarma. Preparatory regimens include eating light, readily digestible foods, avoiding heavy or processed foods, and focusing on fresh fruits and vegetables. Daily routines, meditation, mindfulness, and Ayurvedic herbs can aid in cleansing and rejuvenation. Self-care practices at home include daily self-massage, dry brushing, and maintaining a clean living space. Panchakarma procedures should be conducted by an Ayurvedic practitioner for optimal results. Keywords: Panchkarma, Nasya, Basti, Snehana, Swedana. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
