Abstract

MURRAYA KOENIGII AND ITS ROLE IN DIABETES MANAGEMENT

Jayanti Jatav*

ABSTRACT

Diabetes mellitus is a prevalent chronic metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia, resulting from insulin deficiency or insulin resistance. Despite advancements in pharmaceutical interventions, the management of diabetes remains a significant global health challenge. Traditional medicine has increasingly gained attention as a source of potential anti-diabetic agents, and Murraya koenigii (curry patta), a widely used plant in South Asia, has shown promising therapeutic potential. This paper explores the phytochemical constituents of Murraya koenigii, its mechanisms of action in diabetes management, and the preclinical and clinical evidence supporting its efficacy. The plant contains various bioactive compounds, including carbazole alkaloids, flavonoids, and essential oils, which contribute toits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and insulin-regulating properties. This comprehensive review examines the available literature and highlights the therapeutic potential of Murraya koenigii as an adjunct in diabetes treatment.

Keywords: Murraya koenigii, Diabetes mellitus, Anti-diabetic properties, Insulin resistance, Phytochemicals, Traditional medicine.
