ANTI-INFLAMMATORY EFFECT OF RUTIN ON EGG ALBUMIN INDUCED PAW EDEMA IN WISTAR RATS

ABSTRACT Many plants and fruits contain the flavonoid component rutin, which has drawn interest due to its possible anti-inflammatory qualities. The study examines the rutin flavonoid compound's anti-inflammatory properties in relation to egg albumin-induced paw edema in Wistar rats. The groups of male Wistar rats were treated with rutin, standard medication, control, and positive control (paw edema generated by egg albumin). The conventional medication, Diclofenac Sodium, was given intraperitoneally at a dose of 10 mg/kg body weight, whereas rutin was given at a dose of 10 mg/kg body weight. A plethysmometer was used to measure the volume of the paw at different times after the production of edema. When paw edema was compared to the positive control group, rutin significantly reduced it as shown by decreased paw volume and suppression of inflammatory mediators. Histopathological examination showed that the rutin-treated group had less inflammatory cell infiltration and preserved tissue architecture. According to theseresults, rutin significantly reduces inflammation when it comes to Wistar rats' paw edema caused by egg albumin, and these findings call for more research on the drug's potential benefits for inflammatory conditions.
