ABSTRACT

Because of changes in job and lifestyle, 7 million Americans suffer from low back pain (CLBP), a common problem in the US. It can be acute, sub-acute, or chronic, and chronic forms are associated with the somatosensory cortex. In Brihattrayi, the Swedish Ayurvedic deep heating method known as Upnaha is marketed as a pain reliever. According to Acharaya Charka and Acharayasushruta, which are both a part of Niragnisweda and Sagni Sweda, it is a topical treatment. The main cause of CLBP is arthritis, which is associated with disorders of the muscular skeleton. One of Charaka Sutrasthana main formulations, Upnaha Godhumyavadiupnaha, is applied to particular low back areas. It significantly affects how pain is managed, especially when NSAIDS are utilized. 60–80% of people suffer from chronic low back pain (CLBP), which is frequently brought on by aging and degenerative joint abnormalities. Similar to katishoola, Ayurveda provides atreatment known as Swedana therapy. The main symptoms of CLBP, pain, stiffness, and gauravata, are effectively reduced by Upnahasweda, a subtype of Swedana that comprises heating for 6–12 hours.

Keywords: Godhumyavadiupnaha, Chronic low back pain, Local application, Swedana.
