A REV IEW ON PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF FICUS RELIGIOSA

ABSTRACT Ficus religiosa is a native Indian tree that is frequently seen by thesides of highways, in Buddhist monasteries, Hindu temples, andshrines. Considered a holy plant in India, it has been used widely sinc eancient times to cure a wide range of illnesses, such as snakebites,constipation, heart problems, skin infections, and diarrhea. Severaltraditional herbal treatments, including shankha vati, chandraprabhavati, and kaminivindravan rasa, also include it . Glycosides, flavonoids,tannins, terpenoids, and sterols are among the phytoconstituents thathave been investigated in recent research in Ficus religiosa. This studyoffers a thorough analysis of its traditional medicinal uses,pharmacological activity, phytochemistry, phytopathology, andethnopharmacological usage. The massive, widely branched evergreentree Ficus religiosa Linn. grows both naturally and in cultivation inIndia. Known for its various medicinal applications and versatility, thepeepal t ree ischaracterized by its leathery, heart shaped, long tipped leaves. It is used to treat a wide rangeof ailments, including as bacterial infections, oxidative stress, diarrhea, diabetes, renal issues,burns, hemorrhoids, gastrohelcosis, skin disorders, convulsions, and TB. The peepal tree is anexceptional source of phenolics, sterols, and other chemicals with a wide range of chemicalstructures. This article examines the wealth of information available about the peepal tree,emphasizing both its potent ial for use in pharmaceutical applications in the future and itsimportant role in traditional medicine.
