EFFECT OF TIANEPTINE ON STZ INDUCED DIABETES IN RATS
Mai M. Al-Ashram*, Manar A. Nader and Ahmed R. El-Sheakh
ABSTRACT Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a major global pathological disorder due to its chronic nature, high prevalence, and detrimental effect on both longevity and quality of life, as well as its high economic burden. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the possible benefits of tianeptine (TIA), an atypical tricyclic antidepressant, on the chronic hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia associated with streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Intraperitoneal TIA was administered three days after the diabetic condition was established in Sprague-Dawley rats and continued daily for eight weeks. Normal, non-diabetic rats were reserved as a control group. TIA therapy failed to ameliorate the elevated blood glucose and lipid dysmetabolism in diabetic rats. Keywords: Tianeptine, Diabetes, Hyperglycemia, Dyslipidemia. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
