AN INVIVO STUDY OF ANTIHYPERLIPIDEMIC EFFECT OF ALLIUM SATIVUM 30 & 200 CH POTENCIES
Jawahar Reddy Naga* and R. Sridevi
ABSTRACT Objective: Homoeopathic system of medicine uses ultra-molecular doses for treatment of hyperlipidemia. Homoeopathic medicines are prepared from plant, mineral, sarcodes, nosodes and animal parts. Allium Sativum (AS) 30 CH and 200 CH potencies are used in homoeopathy for treatment of hyperlipidemia. However, no preclinical studies have been investigated for the antihyperlipidemic effect and its safety. Methods: Allium Sativum 30 CH and 200 CH potencies were used to examine antihyperlipidemic effects in high fat diet (HFD) induced hyperlipidemic rats. After 28 days of treatment, lipid profile (total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglycerides) were measured. Results: Treatment with Allium Sativum 30 CH & 200 CH potencies were able to significantly decrease the levels of TC, TG and LDL. Also the drug was found to cause a significant increase in the HDL levels. The potencies also shown antioxidant properties .Therefore, it can bestates that Allium Sativum 30 CH & 200 CH potencies able to effectively suppress high fat diet induced hyperlipidemia in rats, suggesting the potential protective role in coronary heart disease. Conclusion: In the present study homoeopathic medicine Allium Sativum 30 CH & 200 CH potency exhibit antihyperlipidemic effects in high fat diet induced rats.
