Abstract

NATURAL POLYMERS AN OVERVIEW AND THEIR APPLICATION IN PHARMACY

ABSTRACT

Polymer plays an important role in various fields. Polymers are of various types including natural, synthetic and semi synthetic. Selection of polymers are very important during manufacturing of various dosage form. Selection of polymers depends upon the properties like toxicity, degradation, compatibility in the preparation of various dosage forms. Natural polymers are readily accepted by body and possess some important advantages comparative to synthetic polymers in pharmaceutical industry as well as biomedical application. From decades natural bio-degradable polymers have gained more attention due to the uses, availability, non-toxicity, biodegradability and bio-compatibility. This review explains the chemical structure, properties a potential application, advantages and disadvantages of natural polymers in pharmaceutical industry.
