ABSTRACT

The study aimed to evaluate analgesic activity of ethanolic extract of Emblica officinalis stem bark on experimental animals. Two different doses of ethanolic extract of Emblica officinalis stem bark i.e. 200mg/kg and 400mg/kg were subjected for evaluation of analgesic effect in Swiss albino mice using the Eddy‟s hot plate method. Diclofenac sodium was used as standard (10mg/kg orally). Parameters like licking their fore or hind limbs and jumping response were measured. Ethanolic extract of Emblica officinalis stem bark treated animals showed significant increase in basal hot plate latency period. Significant increase in the basal hot plate latency period of extract compared with control shows the significant analgesic activity of extract of Emblica officinalis. The present study can be concluded with the fact that ethanolic extract of Emblica officinalis stem bark unveils significant analgesic effect in Swiss albino mice using Eddy‟s hot plate model. The precise mechanism underlying the analgesic activity ofextract of Emblica officinalis remains unclear, but it appears to be associated with specific compounds present in Emblica officinalis. Further research is needed to identify and assess the active chemical constituents responsible for this analgesic activity.

Keywords: Analgesic, Diclofenac sodium, Eddy?s Hot plate method, Emblica officinalis.
