CORRELATION BETWEEN INSILICO AND INVITRO ANTIHYPERGLYCEMIC EFFECT OF OCIMUM SANCTUM, TRIGONELLA FOENUM GRAECUM AND MERREMIA TRIDENTATA: A REVIEW
*S. R. Aley Simon, Jeeva Jaimon Thomas and Indraja Jayakumar
ABSTRACT Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by persistent hyperglycemia, which may be caused by insulin resistance, decreased insulin production or both. The purpose of this study was to conduct correlation between in silico analysis for phytoconstituents and invitro bioassay of alpha amylase inhibitory activity from Trigonella foenum graecum, Ocimum sanctum and Merremia tridentata as potential treatments for diabetic mellitus. Different software was used to perform in silico docking study against the targets retrieved from database and ligand files of phytoconstituents were downloaded in Sdf format from PubChem compound database and docking was performed for analyzing the anti-diabetic activity. In-vitro tests were conducted to evaluate alpha amylase inhibitory activity using various solvent extracts. These results suggest that medicinal plants may have antidiabetic properties. However, further research is needed to identify and purify the bioactive ingredient that could be used as an effective antidiabetic medicine. Keywords: Ocimum sanctum, Trigonella foenum greacum, Merremia tridentata, molecular docking, alpha amylase inhibitory activity. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
