Abstract

THE EFFICACY OF ARAGWADHA AVACHOORANA IN THE TREATMENT OF DUSHTA VRANA (NON-HEALING ULCERS)

Dr. Vidhi Thakral*, Dr. Bhushan Kumar Chougule and Dr. Pushpa Godara

ABSTRACT

Wound healing, an important aspect in health care, is elaborately discussed by Acharya Sushruta in Ayurveda, particularly for the treatment of chronic or infected wounds (Dushta Vrana). Despite the progress of antibiotics, bacterial resistance and incomplete wound healing continue to be major challenges. This concept is common in Ayurvedic wound care, which uses a diverse range of herbal medications. The current study evaluates the role of Aragwadha Avachoornana (topical application of Cassia fistula powder) in treating Dushta Vrana. Aragwadha has Shodhana (cleansing) and Ropana (healing) properties. In this study, the Aragwadha bark was collected and processed into a powder, which was applied to chronic wounds. The findings showed marked improvements in various wound healing parameters such as reduced discharge (Srava), odor (Gandha), and itching (Kandu). Analyticalvi testing through pH, ash values, and extractive studies confirmed these results by analyzing Aragwadha.Aragwadha promotes wound healing due to its antiseptic properties, supporting the formation of new tissue and wound management. This study also reinforces the efficacy of traditional Ayurvedic methods in wound care, offering an alternative approach to synthetic agents.
