Materials and Methods: Literature is collected from library, books, Web of Science, Pubmed and Google Scholar. Therefore, this review gives the updated information on the taxonomy, pharmacological activity and the role of flaxseed in diabetes. Result: The flaxseed contains various essential substances including lignans, soluble and insoluble and soluble fibre and the polyunsaturated fatty acids present in it and lowers sugar level in the body .There are also improvements in insulin sensitivity anddecrease in triglyceride and total cholesterol levels.
