S. Sathyanarayanan*, R. Kumaravelrajan and V. Praveenkumar

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to create and assess chewable tablets intended to improve patient adherence, especially in pediatric and geriatric groups. Chewable tablets serve as a practical alternative to traditional tablets, facilitating administration without the necessity of water. Methodology: The formulation process focused on selecting appropriate excipients to enhance taste, mouthfeel, and stability, while ensuring effective delivery of the active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Various formulations were developed using direct compression methods, and the resulting tablets were analyzed for physical characteristics such as hardness, friability, disintegration time, and taste masking effectiveness. Furthermore, in vitro dissolution tests were performed to evaluate the release profile of the APIs.Conclusion: The chewable tablets developed in this study represent a practical and patient-friendly alternative to traditional tablets. The formulation successfully delivered the APIs with acceptable taste and physical attributes, making it appropriate for individuals with swallowing challenges. Additionally, the chewable tablets displayed good stability and consistent performance, suggesting potential for commercial viability.

Keywords: Enhance patient compliance, Taste masking efficiency, Improve palatability, patient- friendly alternative to conventional tablets, Suitable for swallowing difficulties.
