Maithri G. M. and Megha P.*

ABSTRACT

Background: In Ayurveda, all Skin diseases have been named under the umbrella term Kushta. It is considered as one among the Ashtamahagada. Eka Kushtha is Vatakapaha Pradhana Kshudra Kushtha. Prathyatma Lakshanas include Aswedana (Absence of sweat), Mahavastu (Lesion covering larger area), Matsyashakalopamam (Resembles scales of fish), Krishna Arunavarna (blackish red discolouration). By looking at the Lakshanas it can be correlated to Plaque Psoriasis. Plaque Psoriasis is the most common type of auto immune skin disease, with red dry, slivery white scaling lesions, which may be obvious after scraping the surface. The elbows, knees, and lower back are commonly involved. Aims and objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of Vamana followed by Shamanaushadhi in the management of EkaKushtha vis-à-vis Plaque Psoriasis in reducing the signs and symptoms. Material and Methods: A 41year old malepatient came to our OPD with the chief complaints of reddish Scaly lesion (Matsyashakalopamam) over B/L lower limb and upper limb associated with Itching, Dryness and Occasionally burning sensation since 12 years aggravated since 3 months. According to the classical reference Eka kushta is Vata Kapha predominant Vyadhi and patient had the complaint of Kandu (Itching) is one the Bahudosha Lakshana and Kapha Pradhana in nature so Vamana is the line of Chikitsa adopted in this case followed by Shamanaushadi. Conculsion: Treatment modality of Ayurveda provides long lasting results and a better life to patients through its three basic principles i.e. Shodhana, Shamana and Nidan Parivarjana. Patient reported with marked improvement in the symptoms after the course of Vamana Karma and Shamanaushadhi.

Keywords: Eka Kushta, Plaque Psoriasis, Vamana, Shamanaushadhi.
