QUANTITATIVE ESTIMATION AND LC-MS ANALYSIS OF BIOACTIVE COMPOUNDS PRESENT IN PROCRIS REPENS AND SARGASSUM DUPLICATUM

ABSTRACT Phytochemical screening of Procris repens and Sargassum duplicatum was done in methanol extract. Alkaloids, steroids and triterpenoids, saponins, glycosides, tannins and phenolic compounds, flavonoids are found in Procris repens. In addition to it carbohydrates is also found in Sargassum duplicatum. Quantitative determination shows the presence of 40.59 μg/ml alkaloids, 10.34 μg/ml steroids, 79.59 μg/ml saponins, 103.41 μg/ml glycosides, 98.87 μg/ml tannins, 86.83 μg/ml phenols and 12.56 μg/ml flavonoids in Procris repens while Sargassum duplicatum contains 75.36 μg/ml alkaloids, 12.89 μg/ml steroids, 19.42 μg/ml saponins, 52.85 μg/ml glycosides, 2.044 μg/ml tannins, 5.185 μg/ml phenols and 2.857 μg/ml flavonoids. The LC-MS study of Procris repens reveals the presence of phytochemicals such as 2-Hexynoicacid, apigenin, 1,4-Eicosadiene, adipic acid and isobutyl 2-naphthyl ester while the LC-MS study of Sargassum duplicatumreveals the presence of propanedinitrile, 6-Methoxy-6-Oxohexanoic acid, sulfurous acid, 2-ethylhexyl hexyl ester, phytol, 2-Bromotetradecane, 2,9-dimethyldecane and 1-iodododecane compounds.
