UNLEASHING THE POTENTIAL OF PHYTOSOMES: REVOLUTIONIZING HERBAL MEDICINE EFFICACY?
Manishkumar Prajapati*
ABSTRACT Currently, herbal remedies and their phytochemicals seem to be a great treatment option for a number of illnesses. Because of the hydrophilic properties and distinct chemical structure, such chemicals present a significant difficulty because of their low cutaneous or gastrointestinal absorption. One innovative formulation technique that helps to solve these issues is the use of phytosomes. However, their limited selectivity and bioavailability may limit their clinical use. Improved bioavailability is therefore seen as a major barrier to increased bio-efficacy in the delivery of phytochemicals in meals. The limited oral bioavailability of these substances may be enhanced by incorporating polyphenolic chemicals into phospholipid-based self-assembleddelivery vehicles, or Phytosomes. The terms "some" and "phyto" denote a covering for a building or a group of plants, respectively. A phytosome is primarily made by interacting one or two moles of phospholipid with polyphenolic phytoconstituents; the ratios of the reactions might be either 1:1 or 1:2. Therefore, a greater rate and extent of lipophilic herbal elements' passage through lipid membranes—which further emphasizes their role as carriers of acid-labile herbal drugs—can also be achieved with the aid of phytosomes. This work provides details on the phytosome composition process as well as an explanation of the compounds' chemical and biological properties. There is also discussion of the advantages of phytosomes over liposomal and conventional drug delivery techniques. The technology's scientific functioning is examined in conjunction with a summary of significant customized technologies, such as phytosomes. This work provides a thorough overview of phytosome innovation for the advantage of scholars who have a curiosity in this field.
