PRELIMINARY SCREENING OF HEAVY METAL ANALYSIS OF A SIDDHA HERBO MINERAL FORMULATION “SANGU PARPAM” THROUGH A SCIENTIFIC TECHNIQUE ICP-OES
P. Ananthi* and Anthony Duraichi R.
ABSTRACT Background: Siddha system is unique among the Indian system of medicine. Sangu Parpam (SP) is a Siddha Herbo mineral formulation traditionally used to treat cardiac diseases, leucorrhea, oliguria, gunmam. Aim: To validate the heavy metal content of SP using Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectrometric (ICP-OES) analysis. Methods: SP was prepared according to traditional Siddha text and analyzed using ICP-OES (Perkin Elmer Optima 5300DV). Results: The analysis revealed high concentrations of sodium (1271.380 mg/L) and calcium. while heavy metals like arsenic, mercury and lead were below detectable levels. Conclusion: This study confirms the safety of SP for human consumption, as it is free from toxic heavy metals. Further research is needed to establish its efficacy and safety profile. Keywords: Sangu parpam(sp), Cardiac disease, Phyllanthus amarus, safety. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
