ABSTRACT Humans are superior to other animals because they can acquire new skills, incorporate them into their daily lives, and periodically adapt them to suit their needs better and make life easier. Acquiring proficiency in an art requires first learning it. Even in surgery, this is true. Extensive training is a must to master the skills. The significance of skill development in the surgical area was acknowledged by Ayurvedic surgeons in Shalya Tantra. This is well demonstrated by the intricate practical sessions in the Sushruta Samhita chapter 9th on Yogyasutriya, to acquire the necessary skills to manage surgical cases. Similar training concepts are also embraced by modern surgery. That is the reason behind the development of massive experimental models and simulators. This article focuses on the historical and present ideas of surgical skill development, emphasizing the need to combine modern and Ayurvedic training methods with traditional methods. Keywords: Yogyasutriya, Sushruta, Surgical skill, Surgery. [Download Article] [Download Certifiate] |
