ICP-OES ANALYSIS OF HERBO MINERAL DRUG-ELADHI CHOORANAM

ABSTRACT Background: The Eladhi chooranam (EC) is a herbomineral formulation employed for the treatment of Perumbadu (Dysfunctional uterine bleeding). Objective: The aim of this study is to identify the levels of heavy metals (such as arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury) and other elements within the acceptable range in the Siddha herbomineral formulation "Eladhi chooranam". Materials and Methods: The components were collected, purified, and the medication was prepared according to the Siddha literature "Sarabenthirar Vaithiya Muraigal’’. In this process, the medication underwent standardization through simultaneous ICP-OES analysis using PERKIN ELMER OPTIMA 5300 DV. Results: This study reveals the therapeutic safe levels of heavy metals and other elements in Eladhi chooranam, utilizing the PERKIN ELMER OPTIMA 5300 DV ICP-OES analysis equipment. Conclusion: The ICP-OES analysis demonstrated that Eladhi chooranam are devoid of toxic, thereby affirming their safety for use within the Siddha system. This research lays the foundation for the pharmaceutical analysis of Eladhi chooranam (EC) which will be followed by further studies on its safety and efficacy.
