THYROIDECTOMY UNVEILED: CURRENT APPROACHES TO THYROID DISEASE MANAGEMENT

ABSTRACT Thyroidectomy, the surgical removal of all or part of the thyroid gland, is essential for managing various thyroid diseases such as benign nodules, hyperthyroidism, and thyroid cancer. This review provides an in-depth analysis of thyroidectomy, focusing on its indications, surgical techniques, outcomes, and postoperative care. It highlights the advancements in diagnostic imaging and fine-needle aspiration cytology that have expanded the indications for the surgery, as well as the evolution of surgical techniques from traditional open surgery to minimally invasive procedures. Effective postoperative management, including the handling of complications and long-term follow-up, is emphasized as crucial for optimal patient outcomes. In conclusion, thyroidectomy remains a cornerstone in managing thyroid diseases, with continued advancements in surgical techniques.
