FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF CASTOR SEED ENDOSPERM (COMMUNIS RICINUS) EXTRACT BASED ANTIFUNGAL CREAM

ABSTRACT The aim of the present research was to formulate and evaluate the herbal skin care moisturizing and antifungal cream containing castor seed endosperm extracts prepared by using hot continuous stirring extraction, for the purpose of antifungal, anti-ageing and antimicrobial effect on the skin. The skin care cream is prepared which is o/w type of emulsion. It has stearic acid, cetostearyl alcohol, virgin coconut oil, propylene glycol, triethanolamine, castor seed endosperm's ethanolic extract and distilled water as main components. Quality evaluation of the formulated product was assessed by using different evaluation methods. The formulated cream shown good consistency and spread ability, homogeneity, non-greasy, no evidence of phase separation during study period of research. Stability parameters like visual appearance, nature, viscosity and fragrance of the formulated cream showed that there was no significant variation during the study period of research. The herbal extract containing skin care cream gives the synergistic and safe antifungal effect along with moisturizing and soothing effect. The skin care cream also providing the moisturizing effect as they provide an oily barrier which reduces the water loss from the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the skin.
