Abstract

FORMULATION, DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF ALOE VERA EXTRACT CAPSULES DELIVERY SYSTEM AS AN ADVANCED PHYTOTHERAPY APPROACH FOR CONTROLLING DIABETES

ABSTRACT

Diabetes is a serious health concern in many countries with high blood glucose, obesity, and multiple organ failures in late stages. Treating diabetes with effective drugs is still a challenging issue since most of the available diabetic drugs are not effective in combating diabetes, especially in secondary disease complications like obesity retinopathy, and nephropathy associated diabetes. Hence search for effective anti-diabetic medication, especially from natural sources is mandatory with no adverse side effects. The Aloe Vera plant widely distributed in Yemen. It is used internally to counter most of the problems of digestion, diabetes, immune system, and peptic ulcers. It also contains antibacterial, antiseptic, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, anti-oxidant, moisturizing and anti-aging effects. hence widely used for the treatment of cancer. The flower of Aloe Vera were collected from Saada, Yemen, and was prepared by encapsulation of powders from the Aloe Vera flower extract with various concentration of excipients. In the present study the Aloe Vera was formulated as capsules and evaluate for organoleptic properties using tests as, weight variation, drug content, in-vitro dissolution and other evaluation parameters. It
was concluded that among the all formulations of Aloe Vera extract capsules the F1 was found to be as an optimized capsules according to drug release percentage116.6% within 45 minutes in acid medium and drug release percentage 125% within 45 minutes in buffer medium, so the F1 was the best formulation of Aloe Vera medicinal herbs extract capsules delivery system as an advanced phytotherapy approach for controlling diabetes.
