Abstract

EFFECT OF NEUROPLASTICITY PRINCIPLES BASED SENSORY REHABILITATION (NEPSER) ON SENSORY AND MOTOR RECOVERY AMONG MIDDLE AGED STROKE PATIENTS

Manjula S.*, Dr. P. Senthil Selvam and Kameshwaran

ABSTRACT

Background: Efficacy of Neuroplasticity-Principles- based SEnsory-Rehabilitation (NEPSER) to recover sensory and motor recovery in stoke proved to be effective in improving the visuo- perceptual, cognitive, motor, and functional task, Kamal Narayan Arya, et al (2019). Training post-stroke impairments (motor, sensory, and perceptual deficits) in acute, subacute, and chronic phases is practicable using MT. The inclusion of bilateral arm training improves the patient's response to MT, Dorcas BC Gandhi, et al (2020). Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the Effect of NEuroplasticity-Principles-based SEnsory- Rehabilitation (NEPSER) on sensory and motor recovery among middle aged stroke patients. Methodology: 30 participants were recruited in the study and divided into group-A (control group) and Group-B (experimental study). The subjects were divided into 2 groups group A (experimental) received NEPSER, which is based on neuroplasticity principles. GroupB(control) received stand-alone rehabilitation based on neurophysiological, biomechanical and rehabilitation techniques. Result: From The above pre-test and post-test mean value tabless how that the NEuroplasticity Principles based SEnsory Rehabilitation (NEPSER) had significant improvement among middle aged stroke patients. Although improvement was seen in both the groups, group A NEuroplasticity Principles based SEnsory Rehabilitation (NEPSER) was proved to be more effective than the group B Neurophysiological, Biomechanical, and Rehabilitative approaches. Conclusion: This study concluded that NEuroplasticity Principles based SEnsory Rehabilitation (NEPSER) group: Awas more effective in improving the sensory and motor function, among middle aged stroke patients.

Keywords: NEuroplasticity, SEnsory Rehabilitation, stroke, Neurophysiological, Biomechanical, and Rehabilitative approaches.
