AYURVEDIC REVIEW OF KESH- DANT- NAKH SHARIR AVAILABLE IN SAMHITAS

ABSTRACT

Acharyas have told that the Beej is produced by the union of Shukra, Shonit and the Aatma, in which Matrijadi Shadbhav nourishes it and completes the formation of the womb. These six are - Matrij, Pitrij, Rasaj, Satvaj, Aatmaj, Satmayaj. In these nails, hair and teeth are mainly related to Asthi Dhaatu. The updhatu of asthi dhatu is tooth and the mala of asthi dhatu has been described as nail and hair. But Acharya Sharangdhar has described hair as the updhatu of majja. These three (Hair, nails, teeth) are classified under Parthiv Bhava. Acharya Charak has given the counting of hair as 29956, number of teeth as 32 and number of nails as 20. Ayurveda which is the source of healthy & happy life, whose purpose is - "Swasthasya swaasthya rakshanam, aturasya vikar prashamanam", can be understood by categorizing nails, hair, teeth into the following parts - From the
Swasthvritta, Diagnosis, Treatment, Arishta, Studying - Teaching point of views.
