LITERARY REVIEW OF ARMA CHIKITSA IN AYURVEDA

ABSTRACT Arma is a Shuklagat netrarog acc to Acarya Sushrut. It is very common ophthalmic ailment in temperate environment. It has been described under Shuklagata sadhya vyadhi in Ayurvedic sanhita. The prevalence of this disease mostly seen in Global Rural Community and in central India is about 13%, among adult >30years of age. If this layer invades the Krisna Mandala which is transparent in nature causes damage of the transparency of that part and thereby may cause disturbance in vision. On the basis of signs and symptoms described by the modern medical science, the disease „Arma‟ can be correlated with Pterygium. It is a disease in which a wing like fold growth is gradually developing from either Kaneenika (Inner canthus) or Apangasandhi (outer canthus) towards the cornea. On the basis of signs andsymptoms described by the modern medical science, the disease ‘Arma’ can be correlated with conjunctival degenerations including ‘Pterygium’ Arma is chedya sadhya having thin membrane and cured like colour, can be treated by Lekhana Anjanas. It is widely used to prevent the speedy growth of the membrane. Likewise, it is also highly beneficial after the surgical treatment for prevention of relapse after surgery.
