PANCHAKARMA UNVEILED: EXPLORING THE ANCIENT WISDOM OF MUSHAK VISHA DETOXIFICATION

ABSTRACT
The article explores the application of Panchakarma, a traditional Ayurvedic therapeutic approach, in the treatment of Mushak Visha (rat bite poisoning). Drawing from classical Ayurvedic texts such as Ashtangahrudaya, Sushruta Samhita, Charaka Samhita, Ashtanga Sangraha, and Vishavaidya Jyotsnika, the paper outlines specific procedures for Vamana (emesis), Virechana (purgation), Nasya (nasal administration), and Raktamokshana (bloodletting). According to Ashtangahrudaya, Vamana involves the administration of specific decoctions and substances like curds with various powders. Virechana is recommended with a paste of trivrit, nili, and triphala. Nasya is indicated with specific herbal preparations, and Raktamokshana includes pracchana and siramokshana. Sushruta Samhita emphasizes the use of Vamana, Virechana, Nasya, and Raktamokshana in rat bite cases, specifying herbal compounds and purgatives. Charaka Samhita suggests Vamana and Virechana in cases of poisoning, addressing symptoms like burning sensation and salivation. Vishavaidya Jyotsnika emphasizes immediate emesis or purgation for intense ill effects of rat bite poisoning. Specific Vamana and Virechana yogas are outlined, ‘involving oral intake of various roots, seeds, and oils. In conclusion, the article provides a comprehensive overview of Panchakarma procedures for Mushak Visha, integrating insights from various Ayurvedic texts. This traditional approach offers a holistic and systematic method for addressing rat bite poisoning, showcasing the rich heritage of Ayurveda in toxicology management.
