THE COMBINATION OF SIDDHA BHAVANA PANJANKULA THAILAM ALONG WITH SIDDHAR YOGAM IN THE MANAGEMENT OF THANDAGAVATHAM (LUMBAR SPONDYLOSIS) - A CASE REPORT

ABSTRACT
Background: Thandaga Vatham is one of the Vatha diseases mentioned in the Siddha literature Yugi Vaithiya Cindamani. The clinical features of Thandaga Vatham may be correlated with lumbar spondylosis in modern medicine. Lumbar spondylosis is a degenerative condition which affects the lower spine. It commonly occurs to the people with lack of physical activity and sedentary life style, weight lifting and prolonged sitting etc. Lumbar spondylosis is a degenerative disorder of the lumbar spine characterized clinically by an insidious onset of pain and stiffness and radiologically by osteophyte formation. Siddha is a comprehensive system of medicine that emphasizes the body, mind and spirit to restore the innate harmony of the individual. It contains various therapies like varmam, yogam, purification therapies and external therapies. Purification therapies are fasting, purgation, enema, nasiyam and etc. It helps us to detoxify the body and retain energy and restore it. Yogam is one of the parts of the Siddha system of medicine. Yoga helps in increasing flexibility, muscle strength and body tone. Purgation is given to neutralize the Vatham humour. This single case study was carried out to validate the efficacy of purgative therapy followed by Yogam therapy in a particular Vatha disease. Aim and Objective: To present our experience with Siddha Purgative therapy and Yogam on a patient with low back pain. Materials and Methods: A 40 year old Female reported with the complaints of pain in lumbar region with radiating pain over the buttock and both lower limbs. Diagnosis was confirmed after clinical assessments. Results: After the treatment of purification therapies, Taking Bhavana panjakula thylam 5ml twice a day along with Siddhar yogam therapy for 48 days, the symptoms were reduced.
