INTROSPECTION INTO IMMUNITY FROM AYURVEDA POINT OF VIEW – A CRITICAL ANALYSIS

ABSTRACT
Immunity is the capacity to provide resistance against a particular disease. A person is considered swastha in ayurveda only if he or she possesses a pleasant state of mind, Indriya, and atma in addition to an equilibrium state of the tridoshas (Body humours), agni (Bio-metabolic fire), sapta dhatus (Tissues), and tri malas (Waste products of the body). Concepts like vyadhikshamatwa, bala and ojus have the closest meanings to immunity. Any abnormality in these factors affects the immune status of the individual. The above-said factors have to be taken care of in order to achieve immune enhancement. In Ayurveda Bala of a person depends on many factors such as place of birth, time of birth, par excellence of parental endowment, nutrition, bodily constitution, youthfulness, physical activities etc.
