A REVIEW OF INDIAN HERBS AND HERBAL MEDICINE FOR DIBETES MELLITUS

ABSTRACT
This review explores the use of medicinal plants and plants in India for treating diabetes, a major health issue in the country. Traditional medicines derived from these plants are used by around 60% of the world's population. In India, herbal drugs are preferred due to their lesser side effects and low cost. A list of medicinal plants with proven antidiabetic and beneficial effects is provided, including Allium sativum, Eugenia jambolana, Momordica charantia, Ocimum sanctum, Phyllanthus amarus, Pterocarpus marsupium, Tinospora cordifolia, Trigonella foenum graecum, and Withania somnifera. The review also discusses the antioxidant properties of these medicinal plants, as they play a crucial role in reducing the ill effects of diabetes and its secondary complications.
