PHYTOCHEMICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF PERSEA AMERICANA (AVOCADO) – A REVIEW

ABSTRACT
Persea americana (avocado) is a medium-sized tree belonging to the family Lauraceae. Recent archaeological research published evidence that the avocado was present in Peru as long as 8,000 to 15,000 years. Many pharmacological studies have showed that this plant extracts having hypoglycaemic, hypolipidemic, hypotensive, anti-viral, anti-tumour, anti-oxidant, anti-ulcer, anti-bacterial/anti-mycobacterial, wound healing benefits etc... Hence a review is made and this article is an updated compilation of phytochemical and pharmacological works already got published with the plant Persea americana.
