ABSTRACT
A series of new Schiff base derivatives 2-{3’-[(1’’’,5’’’-dimethyl-3’’’-oxo-2’’’-phenyl pyrazolyl))4’’’-yl]iminomethylene}1’H-indol-1’-yl)-N-Arylethanamides(6a-6i) were synthesized using 2-(3-formyl-1H-indol-1-yl)-N-arylethanamide(4a-4i) and 4-aminoantipyrine(5) in the presence of glacial acetic acid. All the synthesized compounds were subjected to FT-IR spectroscopy, UV-Visible Spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy and 1H-NMR characterization. The biological evaluation of the synthesized compounds was carried out using Gram positive bacteria, Gram negative bacteria and fungi showing 6d, 6e, 6f & 6g being active against gram positive bacteria and 6a &6c exhibiting moderate activity against gram negative bacteria. None were effective against fungi.
