ABSTRACT
Background: Karpasa (Gossypium herbaceum Linn.) word denotes cotton plant, belongs to the family Malvaceae. The different parts of Karpasa (Gossypium herbaceum Linn.) plant are used in Ayurveda to treat various diseases. Aim: The present study provides morphological and pharmacognostical details of Karpasa root. (Gossypium herbaceum Linn.) Materials and Methods: Root were procured from organic farm of Nagadaka (Gujrat) for these study. The microscopic study was done by Food & Drug lab. Vadodara. Results: Transverse section and powder microcopy of Karpasa root mainly shows 8-10 layered tubular cork, cortex with rosette crystals, phloem containing phloem fibres, starch grains and rosette crystal, medullary rays comprised brown content cells and majority of wood fiber and vessels. Conclusion: pharmacognostic study of the plant is one of the best
standardization parameter for the sample identification.
