ETHOSOME AS A DRUG CARRIER, NEWER APPROACH FOR TARGETED DRUG DELIVERY

*Saikat Santra, Rajdip Goswami, Riksundar Dandapathak and Soumik Ghosh

ABSTRACT

Before, about 25years ago a new drug delivery carrier was proposed, known as Transdermal drug delivery system (TDDS). A sort of drug delivery system called TDDS is one where medication is directly induced in blood in systematic circulation by penetrating stratum corneum (by low diffusion rate) bypassing GIT. Ethosomes are elastic microvesicles based on phospholipids that are incredibly concentrated in ethanol. It is the preferred medication delivery carrier due to its excellent penetration capabilities and ethanol content (30–50%). Ethosome enhance adherence by patients, convenience, and medication performance and reduce overall price of treatment. Ethosomal drug delivery system is a novel drug development in pharma industrialfield. Ethosomal drug delivery conjugate with A more recent strategy that has benefits over traditional administration channels like intravenous or oral routes is the transdermal drug delivery system (TDDS)... Drugs can be delivered to the stratum corneum beneath the skin painlessly using ethersomes. Delivering bioactive ingredient or active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) through most restricted barrier like skin, this is an obstacle, that problem overcome by using vesicular carrier called Ethosome. Ethosome is the new version of liposome using ethanol. Ethosomes are formulated by using phospholipids, polyglycol, alcohol and water. This vesicular carrier system (Ethosome) can deliver the drugs more efficiently due to its distinct morphology as well as elevated ethanol concentration,, that’s why increase the permeability and penetration through skin and combine with lipids in cell membranes to release the medication. Numerous techniques exist. (like Hot and Cold method, Ethanol injection sonication method, Classic mechanical dispersion method) for formulating the Ethosomes. Various evaluation parameters for the formulated Ethosome like; size, shape, drug content study, zeta-potential, entrapment efficiency, penetration study etc. So that Ethosome enhance adherence by patients, convenience, and medication performance and reduce overall price of treatment. Thus, the present review focuses on Ethosomal drug delivery system and their development cause Future medication delivery methods may heavily rely on ethosomes. This review an article will discuss about ethosome (size, shape, zeta potential, drug content study), composition of ethosome, advantage, disadvantage, application & marketed product of ethosome for future aspect.

Keywords: Ethosome, Vesicular carrier, Skin penetration, TDDS, stratum corneum, zeta potential.
