A REVIEW ON CONTEMPORARY & AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE OF YAVA DHANYA (HORDEUM VULGARE LINN.) IN DIABETIC HEALTH W.S.R TO ITS MICRO NUTRIENTS

ABSTRACT
Inspite of tremendous progress achieved in medical sciences in the last century, the management of diabetes mellitus, a disease as old as mankind, is poor. Diabetes is currently the world’s largest endocrinal disorder. Ayurveda the Indian traditional system of medicine is one of the world’s oldest systems to have documented the diagnosis, treatment and management of diabetes. Ayurveda has got three-fold management of all diseases viz, Ahara (diet) Vihara (exercise) and Aushadha (drug). Acharya Charaka states that human beings are output of Ahararas. Disease specific dietary measures are the unique concept of Ayurveda. The foundation of this study is to review the importance of Aharadravya-Yava and its various preparations of diet. The pharmacological actions like Glycaemic response to carbohydrates consumption, Effect on Carbohydrate Metabolism, and the role of micronutrients of Yava in diabetic health. A systematic search on peer reviewed journals, books, authenticated published articles on websites like pubmed, medline, google scholar and Academically Thesis of Institutions. After going through peer reviewed journals and texts, study reveals that Yava has important role in management of Diabetes mellitus from the diet point of view as it has effect on carbohydrate metabolism, essential micronutrients and fibers.
