Abstract

AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF CHEMOTHERAPY INDUCED FEBRILE NEUTROPENIA IN BREAST CANCER- A CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT

Intoduction: Febrile neutropenia[1] is common in breast cancer patients are under chemotherapy regimen. When the patients diagnosed with febrile neutropenia not fit for continuing chemotherapy. And continue the treatment regimen only after the correction of the febrile neutropenia.[1] On the basis of its presentation its best managed through ayurvedic principles. It can be categorised under pittaja pandu[2] and complication of dushi visha. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of Koshtashodhanottara pandupancanana rasa with patoladi kashaya[4] anupana in chemotherapy induced febrile neutropenia in breast cancer. Methodology: A single subject was subjected to deepana pachana and koshtashodhana with Haritakyadi yoga[5] 6 gms bd with warm water before food for 3 days followed by oral administration of pandupancanana rasa 250mg with patoladi kashaya
24 ml anupana BD before food for 48 days. Result: successfully completion of chemotherapy without any complications, with our treatment in between the chemotherapy. Conclusion: The symptoms of febrile neutropenia like jwara, dourbalya, chardi, nidranasha, and also there is increased temperature (>100.10 f) decreased nuetrophils count due side effects of chemotherapy drugs. pandupancanana rasa is panduhara, agnideepana, balya, and rasayana. And patokaturohinyadi kashaya is jwarahara, chardi hara, aruchi hara and also vishahara. because of all these qualities the case showed the significant results.
