ABSTRACT
Local treatment procedures for eyes are explained in the name of Netra Kriyakalpa. Netravarti which is applied as Anjana (Collyrium) is a popular method of application of medicine into the lower eyelids, belongs to one of the Kriyakalpa. Haridradi varti is one such netravarti explained in Chakradatta and termed as sarvanetramayapaham (Effective for all eye diseases). It contains Haridra, Daruharidra, Haritaki, Vibhitaki, Amalaki, Lodhra, Yashtimadhu and Raktachandana. The efficacy of active principles derived from raw plant materials depends on different extraction procedures. This extraction is essential in securing the potency and concentration of active components within smaller doses. This process guarantees the purity of the final product and also enrich the formulation of diverse medicinal products, ensuring their effectiveness and enabling precise and controlled administration. Abhishyanda is classified under sarvagata netraroga in Ayurveda classics which effects eyes in all ways and can be correlated to Conjunctivitis based on its signs and symptoms. Inflammation of the conjunctiva, known as conjunctivitis, is a common eye condition characterized by the swelling and irritation of the conjunctiva. It can be caused by various factors, including infections (Bacterial or viral), allergies, or irritants. Considering these factors, the present study has been conducted to provide understanding into the in vitro anti-inflammatory activity of Haridradi varti extract by protein denaturation method. Results showed the highest percentage of inhibitory activity (78.44%) and IC50 value (622.14 µg/ml) when test samples taken at different concentrations (200 µg/ml to 1000 µg/ml). Hence it indicates that Haridradi varti extract possesses a significant amount of anti-inflammatory activity.
