Abstract

A REVIEW OF PHARMACOGNOSTIC STUDY ON INDIAN HOG PLUM

ABSTRACT

Spondias pinnata, also known as Wild mango or Indian hog plum, is a fruit of an indigenous medicinal plant. In this article, we will briefly review its classification, common names, cultivation, morphology, botany, general information, constituents, and medicinal uses. "Indian Hog plum, also known as Spondias pinnata, is a deciduous and globous tree that belongs to the family of flowering plants. The fruit of this tree is known for its delicious taste and numerous health benefits. As a mild deciduous tree plant, the hog plum is known for its high nutritional value, low-calorie count, and abundance of vegetable proteins, zinc, chitin, starch, vitamins, and minerals. Various parts of S. pinnata have
been traditionally used for treating a wide range of ailments including diarrhea, dysentery, stomach troubles, hyperacidity, wounds, sprain, rheumatism, gonorrhea, tuberculosis, as an aphrodisiac, and as an antidote to arrow poison. It has also been used for treating dyspepsia, ringworms, abscesses, painful joints, as a refrigerant, tonic, antiseptic, astringent, mental disorders, vomiting, and many more.
