Abstract

MANAGEMENT OF NASAGATA RAKTAPITTA WITH NASYA KARMA

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Raktapitta is a bleeding disorder where Rakta vitiated by Pitta flows out of the orifices of the body. It can be life threatening depending upon frequency and amount of blood loss. Acharya Charak has mentioned Raktapitta as an Asta Mahagada depicting the fact of its severity. Nasagata Raktapitta is a type of Urdhvaga Raktapitta (disorders with bleeding from upper orifices), wherein the Anubandhi Dosha is Kapha and is said to be Sukha Sadhya. On the basis of its origin it can be correlated with epistaxis or nose bleed. Although it is a common nasal disorder and is seen in all age groups, it can be presented as emergency condition. In classics treatment principles like Avapidana Nasya, Pradeha, Parichechana, Ghritapana etc has been mentioned for the disease. Objective: This case study was done to observe the efficacy of Avapidana Nasya in the management of
Nasagata Raktapitta (epistaxis). Materials and Methods: Present study was conducted on 25-year-old female patient suffering from epistaxis in the OPD of Shalakya tantra, ITRA. She presented with the complaint of bleeding from the nose for 9 months and frequency varying from 3- 4 times/15 days. Avapidana Nasya with Vasa Swarasa was given along oral administration of Laksha Churna and Vasadi Ghrita. Results: Remarkable result was observed in the form of improvement in chief complaints of the patient.
