ALOPECIA AERATA (PUZHUVETTU) – A HOLISTIC SIDDHA APPPROACH

ABSTRACT
Background: Alopecia areata, characterized by hair loss from specific body areas, primarily the scalp, is often referred to as spot baldness due to the development of bald patches. In Siddha System of literature out of 4448 disease Puzhuvettu comes under the Siranoi 46 classification and in Siddha system of medicine is significantly involved in treating such conditions. Aim: To Analyse the role of Herbo-mineral formulations in 21 yr adult male Patient. Material and Method: A 21-years-old male patient suffering from single patch of hair loss over left parietal area was treated with both external and internal therapy for a period of 9weeks. Clinical assessments were done during, before and after treatment period. The complaints were relieved by assessing noting the changes in hair regrowth over the patch. Result: After 2 weeks of treatment slight hair growth was observed. During 4th week most part of patch covered with hairs. At the end of 9th week, the patch was fully covered with hairs. Conclusion: This case study reveals the efficacy of Siddha Medicine including both internal and external medications for duration of 9 weeks in the management of Puzhuvettu.
