ABSTRACT
Bhasma is a unique preparation of Rasadravyas where inorganic toxic metals and minerals were used as a medicine. One such toxic minerals (Arsenic compounds) used in Ayurveda is Haratala. In any of the formulation until and unless it is specified Haratala is used in shudha form not Haratala Bhasma. Specially Haratala in Bhasma form indicated in the treatment of Vatarakta. Many media’s have been explained for the incineration process of Haratala. An attempt is made to prepare Haratala bhasma as per the classics. Haratala Shodhana done with Kushmanda swarasa and Marana done by using Palasha moola kwatha and Mahisha mootra. Nirdhooma pareeksha of Haratala Bhasma was achieved after 12th Puta. XRD report shows the strongest peaks with high intensity in the Ashoditha Haratala, Shoditha Haratala matches with standards of As2S3 with crystal structure Monoclinic and in the Haratala Bhasma matches with standards of AsS with crystal
structure Monoclinic. In EDX analysis, indicating the gradual addition of elements due to the media which have been used during shodhana and marana. FTIR results of Haratala Bhasma shows the presence of functional groups indicating presence of organic contents.
