A REVIEW ARTICLE ON CORIANDER (CORIANDER SATIVUM L.) FOR BIOLOGICAL, POTENTIAL AND MEDICINAL APPLICATIONS

ABSTRACT
Coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) is an annual plant that belongs to the family Umbelliferae possessing spice, aromatic, nutritional as well as medicinal properties. In India, coriander is known as „dhania‟ in Hindi language. Coriander is one of the important and earliest seed spices crop. The aromas and flavors have for many years attracted the attention of man is due to the presence of pleasant aromatic odour. Essential oil rich in linalool found in the stem, leaves and fruits of coriander. It can be used directly or indirectly for diverse purposes. It can be used as a spice in culinary, medicine, food industry, in perfumery, beverage, plastic, cosmetic, fragrance and detergent industries and pharmaceuticals industries. It has wide pharmacological
activities such as anti-oxidant, anti-microbial, anti-diabetic, anti-epileptic, anti -mutagenic, anti- depressant, anxiolytic, anti-hypertensive, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective and diuretic.
