ABSTRACT
One of the first methods for systemic medication delivery was the sublingual route. Bypassing first-pass Metabolism, this pathway allows for rapid drug absorption into the systemic circulation. Many Pharmacologically active substances, including peptides, analgesics, and cardiovascular medications, Have been tried to pass the sublingual mucosa. For the sublingual route of drug delivery, the anatomical Structure, blood supply, biochemical makeup, transport channels, permeability enhancement Techniques, in vitro / in vivo models, and clinical investigations are reviewed in this review.
